Just for fun this weekend, I got up at 5:30 am, cycled along a track made of sharp stones, and scrabbled my way up and down a hill. That’s a good time in Ibra.
On my way up, I met this lass (small picture as she was very shy):
I think this is a female Desert Wheatear, although there are several kinds of black and white wheatears here, in winter/summer/male/female varieties, and none of the pictures look quite like this one. Something in the neighbourhood of a flycatcher, anyway.
Otherwise, the main signs of life were quite a few small and very fast geckos:
This one was very well-camouflaged, and I suspect was trying to scare me.
View from the top:
There are bits of town just visible above the mountains on the right.
Back down, I came across a lovely sight — small, perfectly-formed asses (how low will I go for pagerank? You don’t want to know):
Zebras and donkeys have evolved separately for about 4 million years, but you might not guess:
And once I got too close, off they went. But the ears still faced in my direction:
Very very cool!
