Gutenberg Happy Dance

Two causes for celebration for me at Distributed Proofreaders this week.  Firstly, thanks to Black History Month in America, my* first book as post-processor (The Freedmen’s Book by L. Maria Child) had its moment in the sun at Project Gutenberg:last 7 daysOver 25,000 downloads so far, and for one week, sitting on top of the Kama Sutra and Ulysses.
Why? A letter in it got noticed by a historical letters blog (Letters of Note)  and then became popular in the mysterious way of the Internet.  Even the Daily Telegraph heard about it, although their reporter didn’t notice that it was PG which had re-published the book.  Hurrmph.

Number two was my first project as project manager getting started: Hogg’s Three Perils of Man.  Not likely to get quite so popular, but it will be nice to fill the gap.  Then the Perils of Woman, The Bruce, The Wallace …

* ‘Mine’ in the sense that all the scanning, OCRing, proofreading and formatting was done by others.
